Some $475,000 in commitments was announced this morning for a current total of over $3 million raised since the campaign began this spring.  “Today’s commitments confirm how important this project is to the people of ACADIE-BATHURST. It is truly a unifying regional project that will impact all our communities. This morning’s announcement motivates us to continue working together for our regional hospital,” Mr. Legacy explained.

Patients the focus of our efforts

Our patients’ wellness is the focus of all the decisions and actions taken to bring this project to fruition. Normand Lebouthillier, a resident of Caraquet, agreed to give a moving testimonial explaining the important role that the regional hospital plays as a complement to his local facility.  “I am one patient among the thousands who can tell you their story today. I needed care about a year ago and am very grateful for the services I received. After we called 911, I was transported by ambulance on an urgent basis to the Tracadie-Sheila Hospital where I underwent a scan. I was subsequently transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of the Chaleur Regional Hospital in the early hours. The specialist and his team were waiting for me and the care that I received was both immediate and appropriate. It took them a week to “put the wheels back on an old car” and get it running and back on the road again. This kind of work results from a smoothly running system in which compassionate care is delivered by well-trained and attentive caregivers who are dedicated to their cause, namely that of building a healthy world,” Mr. Lebouthillier explained.

About the Chaleur Regional Hospital construction project

The money raised during the campaign will supplement the $200 million investment by the provincial government. The $5 million fundraising campaign will help modernize our regional hospital. In practical terms, this money will go toward purchasing modern equipment for four major priority projects, namely the:

  • Modernization of patient rooms;
  • Complete restructuring of the Mother/Child Program;
  • Expansion and reorganization of the integrated ambulatory care units;
  • Construction of a new auditorium for knowledge sharing.
