The Chaleur Regional Hospital Auxiliary is bidding farewell after 80 years of dedication!

Bathurst – The Chaleur Regional Hospital Foundation wishes to recognize the Chaleur Regional Hospital Auxiliary for its exemplary dedication to the patients and staff of the Chaleur Regional Hospital.  This chapter, which has been in existence for 80 years, is bidding farewell with an impressive record of accomplishment.

The first meeting of the Chaleur Regional Hospital Auxiliary was held on October 21, 1941.  The group was then called the Ladies Aide and its first president was Mrs. Edmund Léger (Louise). These ladies played an important supporting role, as indicated at that time by Reverend Father Dosithé Robichaud. Initially, membership fees were set at one dollar and two years later, in 1943, the group had 42 active members. Almost 30 years later, the Chaleur Regional Hospital opened its doors and at the same time, a gift boutique was opened, managed and operated by the Auxiliaries. This boutique quickly became the main source of funding for the Auxiliaries, but unfortunately closed last year due to a decrease in traffic as a result of the pandemic.

«The Chaleur Regional Hospital Auxiliary is an organization that is very close to our hearts, but sometimes we have to face the fact that we have to question ourselves and make decisions that are not always easy. Our group has played an important role, but it is now time for us to step aside. That being said, we are so proud of the accomplishments that have been made possible through the commitment of our members and we are confident that the Foundation will take over to ensure that our common goal continues to be achieved; that is, the improvement of health care and services at our hospital through patient comfort and support for our health care professionals. », explained Edith Tribe, President of the Chaleur Regional Hospital Auxiliary Programs and Patricia Legacy, President of the Chaleur Regional Hospital Auxiliary. « We are very grateful for the extraordinary contribution of the Chaleur Regional Hospital Auxiliary who have always demonstrated their commitment to patients, professionals and the institution through their compassion and contribution to various projects. », explained Stéphane Legacy, Vice-President of Outpatient and Professional Services.  The Auxiliary recently donated $100,000 to the Chaleur Regional Hospital Foundation and an endowment fund will be set up in its name. The objective of the Chaleur Regional Hospital Auxiliary Endowment Fund will be to support staff development through scholarships.
